Re: Should I be using heating mats?
According to myants.de Paratrechina Longicornis love it arround 24-26°C. As you wrote that they are already an established colony I asume you mean that they are already pretty big. So it is up to you if you want to use a heating mate for one area of your nest. What I can recommend, as it was recomm...

Should I be using heating mats?
I've been ant keeping for two years now, haven't used a heating mat once. After catching a few queens this weekend, im starting to wonder if I should've been using them all along. I live in Arizona so its not like the house is cold or anything (80-82 day, 78 night during the summer) but it still see...

Re: They won’t eat fruit!
So they will most likely start eating fruit and sugars once the colony grows?

They won’t eat fruit!
My new colony of pheidole ants love protein but don’t touch fruit. Some ants will drink the honey but only certain ones who are still very cautious. Why are they doing this?

Pheidole ants
This is my first ant colony. This monsoon I collected a queen which I thought at that time was a tetramonium queen. Later I found out that it was actually a pheidole ant queen. Soon I created a ten gallon naturalistic setup and the ants moved in. My questions: is there anything special that these an...

some questions
Three questions: first, is a 10 gallon tank good for pavement ants? Second, how would I water plants in a naturalistic setup without flooding the colony, third, how do I prevent ants from climbing up silicon sides.

Re: First time keeper
Thanks for the reply. I’m pretty sure I know what you mean. I will probably be setting up their nest this weekend. I asked a question I’m my original most about watering the plants in the tank without flooding the colony. How would I go about doing this? (I’m going for the naturalistic setup)

Re: First time keeper
I put the test tube in a container and wrapped a black cloth around it to keep it dark. The ants started investigating around the tube and took in some fruit flies to the queen. I cane back and saw them carrying brood out of the nest and into a fold in the cloth. I later saw the queen follow. Will t...
