Re: Queen Ants Identification Help

Bit hard to tell from these pictures and without measurements... but i'm guessing Formica sp. I have never measured an ant before. Could you explain the process so I dont stess them out too much? I just put a piece of measuring tape underneath the test tube the queen is in and then look down on it....

Re: ID 2 queens - 9/8/2018 Netherlands

Formica requires photographs of the gaster showing off hair coverage of each tergite. Myrmica generally requires microscopic examination, so you will almost never get an ID through photographs over the internet. That's alright, i'm already happy i got the genera right ;) I might attempt another pic...

Re: Can anyone confirm the genus and/or species of these 3 ant queens?

I am far from proficient at IDing but to me it looks like:
Queen 1: Tetramorium sp.
Queen 2: Lasius sp.
Queen 3: Formica sp.

Looks like a Lasius sp. to me. Possibly L. niger but can't be sure on that

Re: Queen ant identification w/pictures

Camponotus pennsylvanicus is an american species and not likely to be found in Sweden.
My guess would actually be a Formica sp. especially when looking at the workers in the first pic.
