Hybernating Tetramorium
After many (many) failed attempts, I have 2 Tetramorium colonies that went beyond the half dozen worker stage. Both have around 80-100 workers and lots of brood (yipee!) They are still in test tubes, attached to mini outworlds where I feed them. Now, I'd like to hybernate them, and I know it is late...

experiment with Vaseline and peppermint
Since peppermint is an ant deterrent, would it make sense to mix some peppermint oil with Vaseline in order to make a more effective barrier?
I understand it would not kill ants, but could it stress the colony?
What about cinnamon?

Not laying anymore
I started ant keeping this year, and caught 5 queens. I have not been able to take good enough pictures, so I am not sure on species, although I suspect a mix of tetramorium and formica. I will keep working on ids elsewhere... All 5 queens started great, laying eggs, and hatching (up to) 10 nanitics...
