Re: camponotus Polygynous experiment

Im sorry but as someone who has attempted this before as well, it doesn't work. At all. I attempted it a few times when I was a newer ant keeper and they slaughtered each other after a while. They somehow slowly realize that they're not from the same colony. And either A) kill each other a few days/...

Re: New keeper looking for help

Sure, but you'll need to send some pictures obviously. We can't ID it without taking a look at the queen first.

Re: BRITISH COLUMBIA NUPTIAL FLIGHTS

Honestly the habitat/container/outworld, doesn't usually matter that much, but if you don't trust your DIY/crafting skills then can just buy the AC ant stuff. I just mostly use steep plastic containers with oil/baby powder/fluon barriers, connected to test tubes. However i find the experience making...

Re: Wild food

It really is up to you if your want to prepare the food your ants eat, for me i usually either find bugs that were unfortunate enough to have their existence noticed by me in my house and feed them to my colonies. It depends on the bug and the colony I'm feeding it to but a general rule of thumb is:...

Re: Are Tetramorium Ants Polygynous?

Thanks for the help! I am not going to buy them anymore. I will try to find them during their nuptial flight here in June. I am not willing to risk them fighting, so I will just keep them in seperate test-tubes. Thanks for the help, again. :D Also, how long has Tetramorium sp. E been renamed to Tet...

Re: 6 x Queens Found (UK) Please help!

Hey Rob, Considering that you're in the UK the species most commonly found is rubra most likely so it's safe to assume that it's rubra, although I'm not sure if there are more myrmica species in the UK. I live in Canada BC which is completely different landscape and ecosystem wise, however myrmica r...

Re: Queen Ant???

That is definitely a queen, however species I'm not sure as im not familiar with your area, i live in Canada BC so I'm have no idea what is native where you are. However that looks to be some sort of camponotus Queen, I'm assuming she's quite large in size compared to other ants. If you could measur...

Re: Are Tetramorium Ants Polygynous?

They are technically polygynous but more times than not the Queen's end up killing each other after workers start being created, they kindove fight until there's only one left and the aftermath usually leaves the last one mauled with missing limbs and antennas so it's best not to mix them unless yo...
