I have Messor Barbarus which are know from having strong jaws. The nest I am about to get is 50cm x 30cm I am not sure how is it going to be. They are now in 30x15 and the nest part is all black because of their number. I am not sure if it's going to be enough large nest to make them feel comfortabl...

I have never used this method to connect test tube with water or anything. My formicarium is already with nest and outworld together. I am wondering...

Re: Is this a QUEEN? If yes what kind
Social parasites do not found colonies independently. They need help from host workers. Most social parasite queens have not retained their instincts for brood care and must undergo a risky introduction to adult workers. Formica social parasites still know how to open cocoons, so giving them pupae ...

Re: Is this a QUEEN? If yes what kind
They will accept pupae from just about any Formica sp. just fine. I don't think we will be able to identify her further without a much closer look, though. Formica social parasites can open cocoons, and they only need about 6. 1. why does she need cocoons? 2. can i give her the pupaes even if she i...

Re: Is this a QUEEN? If yes what kind
I did separete them immidiately. But the problem is it's a wild queen. How am i able to get pupae from an old nest that is inside the ground. I don't want to destroy it. And also what is the difference between parasitic queen and no parasitic.
