Re: 3 9mm Queen Ants caught in Toronto, Canada
Awesome! So, since they’re polygynous, I can place them all in one test tube?

3 9mm Queen Ants caught in Toronto, Canada
I caught these 3 queen ants on May 3rd 2020 in Toronto Canada. They are all 9mm in length and have an orange colouration with striped gasters. I’m inclined to believe they are all Lasius sp. queens, but the exact species name would be very helpful. :) https://i.imgur.com/hkw3aQz.jpg https://i.imgur....

Re: Queen Ant Identification
Your queen also looks like one of mine, and we both live in the same area. I’m about to make a separate post where we can (hopefully) both get these identified.

Here’s some more photos from a farther distance : https://imgur.com/a/CrYKUnj I’m learning more towards Formica sp. at the moment...the Lasius niger queens seem to be a bit more brown in coloration? Yes, it does mostly resemble a Formica cinerea queen! Good luck with them ;) Thanks! I’ll do some mo...

Re: 8mm Queen Ant from Toronto, Canada. Caught mid-July.
It’s pretty tough to get any closer pics using my phone camera. Here’s an imgur gallery with a few other photos I took. I’m starting to think it’s a Formica Subsericea because of my geography (Formica fusca is not present in North America).

Re: Camponotus Ant with Cut on Gaster!
Sorry just had another look at the pics. She has the same mark either side. It is just her gaster. If that was never their before then she has a swollen gaster and that is a good thing from what i have seen and read. She is producing at a healthy rate my friend. Good! Re: Camponotus Ant with Cut on Gaster!
Sorry I cannot tell 100% if she is cut but I have seen queen with swollen gasters and some sections looked lighter due to stretching. Could this be a possibility for your ant as the eggs form inside? If she seems like its not an issue to her. I would say do nothing so you do not stress her out furt...

Camponotus Ant with Cut on Gaster!
A week ago I decided to feed my 5 queen ants some honey using several small pieces of tin foil. After checking up on them today, I noticed that my oldest queen ant with several larvae had a cut on her gaster! I’ve removed the tin foil and believe that it may have cut her. She seems to be walking aro...
