Probably not an ant but an ant mimic

Hello everyone, So yesterday I sad a very peculiar creature and I was surpised that something like and Ant Mimic existed here in Luxembourg. Since it is related to ants I would still like to give it a try and ask people if they could possibly identify this insect. https://imgur.com/a/aaDD3rt The col...

Re: New eggs!!!

Nice. I caught my queens on the 24th. They haven’t laid any egg as of yet from what I can see, but I think I’ve been checking in on them too much. I shouldn’t do so more than once a week. Hopefully at least one of them will lay a few eggs. They way they live is both fascinating and yet a bit sad ho...

Re: New ant farm!!!!!!!!!

As mentioned in the other post, watch some videos or play games. You can also of course watch movies or so something else. Like research the local pet stores and check / ask if they sell feeder insects like mealworms, cockroaches or crickets.

Re: Queen neglecting her eggs

not to disagree with the fact that she may or may not have been infertile. Just wanted to add that sometimes queens die for unknown reasons within the first year or shortly after.

Re: Alate questions

As SYUTEO mentioned, even young colonies (under a year) can produce alates. However the males usually don't live for very long. First because they starve due to not having a mouth (only some species) and second because their only purpose is to reproduce and give the queens the ****/semen to lay fert...

Re: Messor Barbarus

Looks nice. Also I found funny that they seem to love mealworm at least from time to time. I have never tried fruit flies because I didn't want to mess too much with those. So far I have observed that they try to drag the mealworm into an area that helps them limit their wiggling and once they are e...

Re: Fungicides in test tubes

Same. I wouldn't recommend this. Especially since it's probably designed to not harm humans but it doesn't care for insect life. It might even infest their watersource and slowly poison them since it may be toxic to the ants on consumption.
