Re: Species Coexisting in Formicaria?
The only issue I may see if that the ants will hunt some of them for food or that the millipeds crawl out of the formicarioum if it's open space. But other than that I don't see any big issues. Springtails are always good and I'm also thinking about getting some for my own colony. The only question ...

Re: Mold is growing
Hey, Tried to access the pictures but sadly it didn't work for me. I would recommend you to reupload them to imgur and post the link(s) in here. For the colony nesting, I don't know exactly what kind of setup a "Tar Heel ants inception chamber" is but I would keep my colony in a testtube, at least u...

True.
However you can tackle them by adding more security. Like more cotton or more baby powder or a thicker fluon barrier. xD

Re: C pennsylvanicus
I got some really fine mesh that looks as if it is solid but it still lets air pass through. Plus it's small enough to keep everything out. I guess that would be something for you. If the ants keep trying to get out it also might mean that they need something. Like water or food or digging medium. O...

Re: Just Caught A Queen i need help
Hello there, First there are multiple factors playing here. It's important to know that for a queen ant to lay eggs, you need to give her a dark spot and calm / quiet. If the queen is stressed, she may eat the eggs as she will re-consume the proteins for a move to another founding location. You can ...

Re: How do polygynous ants get new queens into their colonies?
hey, I think it's necessary to clarify this for Mahnez. There are species of ants, be it monogynous or polygynous or whatever the others are again because I forgot the right names ^^, which can create fertile queens within the colony. This is due to either the males or females which are born that ar...

Re: Water almost gone in test tube
What you could try is to place a slice of tubing inside the next testtube to make it seem as if they have a small chamber. This way they will think that the front chamber is far away and they will usually drop their rubbish off in there.

Re: Need help Very Soon! Cooling System Idea
Hello there, 30+ colonies? That seems like a lot of work. I assume that you only have them in testtubes as that might be too much work for only one person and if you had a helping hand then that would make it unnecessary to buy a solution. Nether the less I could offer the following options. If they...

Re: New and need help
I wonder, how did you sterilize the soil? I wouldn't know how to do it myself. Next do you have some sort of farmer living close by? Would you mind trying to use sand or dirt or clay which you can buy at a pet store? Not sure how many regular pet stores sell them but mine does since they sell aquari...

Re: Water almost gone in test tube
Don't worry. The queen should be fine. As you used cotton I don't think that you were squeezing the tweezers like a maniac. For the eggs, beleave me I had to do the manual labour myself a couple of times. Basically here is what I had to do in the past. I caught a queen that had a dead worker being s...
