Re: Hibernation temperature for Camponotus sp.

Hello there, I checked very quickly on this webside https://www.antstore.net/shop/de/Ameisen/Ameisen-aus-Suedeuropa/Camponotus-barbaricus.html which says that they usually hibernate from end of october until the end of march at about 15°C. What is their current temperatur? You can put them in a corn...

Re: Tetramorium Emergency!

I think I got bad news for you. Your Tetramorium probably are monogyn so they don't have more than one queen. You should keep them in seperate containers. About your shattered testtube situation it probably is difficult to get a quick replacement for such a situation but I guess by now you have foun...

Re: I'd like help with hibernation

So about lasius niger, they should be inside your fridge now. if they are still in your room with 19-20°C then put them in a place which is a bit colder so they don't get a shock or something and then put them inside your fridge which should be arround 5-9°C. Messor barbarus starts hibernation at th...

Re: My Messor Barbarus colony :D

Yeah the fridge is definitely too cold unless it is a wine fridge which can stay at temperatures of around 17-19 °C I am sure colder temperatures will kill those little fellows :C But I would recommend that you try to hibernate them at least for a month. It keeps the queen healthy and if can help th...

Re: Ttransfer Ants or not?

That's what I kind of said. He could try to capture a queen and some of her workers. Not the whole colony cause that might be a bit difficult. But he could try that anyway since there are no GAN Farmers arround.

Re: My Messor Barbarus colony :D

well. Actually it kinda will. They might not need to properly hibernate but it would still be best to do it if possible. It gives the queens a breakd from egglaying and the year after she might lay out a lot of eggs. I will hibernate mine or at least put them in a room with temperatures of arround 1...

Re: Help, she's dying... I think

Hm I haven't changed water for my colonies yet :/ But as long as the water looks clear and the cotton hasn't got moldy they should be fine. sometimes the mold doesn't even affect the ants but that depends on the mold and the species. I hope you get lucky with your next colony tho. Perhaps use the re...

Re: Ttransfer Ants or not?

Hello there, Glad to hear that you want to learn more about ants. You are never too old or too young for ant-keeping but as you are a bit younger you might need to restrain yourself with hasty decisions. So I am already glad you managed to restrain yourself from just doing something that might be ha...

You will probably find out if she is alright as soon as she got her workers. :)
Until then it's best to asume that she is alright. ;)
