Re: New queen, eggs not developing after 3 months
I’m just wondering because you said she was unproductive for 7 months on how many of those months or weeks was the heating cable attached? The whole 7 months? I caught her June 1st and setup the heating cable around the end of September when it was suggested she might have been too cold and gone in...

Re: New queen, eggs not developing after 3 months
Wow 7 months. How long did you have the heating cable attached for? That gives me hope for a camponotus species I have for 5 months that although has laid eggs a couple times still has no larvae or workers. As far as a queen only laying male alates that happens when the queen is not mated/unfertili...

Re: New queen, eggs not developing after 3 months
New update! My queen actually just got her first nanitic this past weekend! It took 7 months. I was certain at this point that she was infertile and that she was just laying eggs and eating them, or they were simply not developing. But, kept changing her water when needed and giving her some honey. ...

Protein jelly for feeding ants
Hello, I saw in a video that a person was using Protein Jelly to feed their ants. This seemed like an easy alternative to acquiring/keeping feeder insects. But, they were in Europe and I haven't found anything similar so far locally in Canada or through Amazon, etc. Currently I just have a queen ant...

Re: Warm up my queen with heating cable?
She is still in her original test tube setup for over 3 months. With a bundle of eggs that are not developing into larva
I was also thinking maybe a small box with the cable around the perimeter, and the test tube inside on a towel?
I don't know.

Warm up my queen with heating cable?
Hello, I have a queen ant (I believe camponotus pensylvanicus) that I caught June 2nd. Her eggs still have not developed and one of the theories is that she is too cold. The house is always around 20-22 degrees C. I ended up ordering a heating cable for reptiles, etc. Now I'm looking for suggestions...

Re: New queen, eggs not developing after 3 months
Queen could also be infertile. I had a tetramorium queen that lived for months laying eggs the entire time that never developed into larvae. After 4 months I gave up on her. How often have you been checking on her ? Probably too often, especially since trying to get her to move to the new tube. I'l...

Queen could also be infertile. I had a tetramorium queen that lived for months laying eggs the entire time that never developed into larvae. After 4 months I gave up on her. Ah that would be unfortunate, I thought they died after a few weeks if infertile. I will try getting her somewhere warmer and...

Re: New queen, eggs not developing after 3 months
Attached is a picture. She is clutching her bundle of eggs. The right side of the tube is another test tube with more water that I am trying to get her to move into as her current water on the original tube is low. I've left her current tube uncovered and covered up the new one, which is inserted in...
