Re: New Ant Keeper Needs Help

There are 3 ways that I am aware of: if you see them eating, then they are eating; if you see their gasters extended when they weren't previously, then they are eating; and if the colony ends up growing in size (and they are past the nanitic stage), then they are eating. Hope this helps.

Re: ID Help

Yeah, I guess so, it could just be pubescence or a thinner part of the exoskeleton. Maybe I didn't look at the picture carefully enough. The photo is also really blurry.

Re: What kind of ant do you think this is?

I don't know if you still have it, but this does look like a queen to me. Sorry if I'm resurrecting this post.

Re: Campontus

Camponotus ants simply don't grow very quickly. They also don't tolerate new ants that aren't from their colony well, so you can't add more ants. The best foods for any kind of ant colony are: 1. Honey or diluted honey. 2. Sugar water (use in place of honey if you do use it). 3. Insects or other te...

Re: dracula ant eating pupa

If it is truly a dracula ant, the pupa should be fine. After all, this happens in the wild too, and that species is not extinct.

Re: Ant Tower Questions

I just got the new Ant Tower in the mail and I love the design. I'm really excited to see it in action, but I have two questions. One, I see it has a sort of notch or trench on the underside of the hydration tray. Is that for use of a heating cable? Two, how recommended is it to use the air circula...

Re: Tarantula Web Barrier

Hi everybody, I saw in one of the youtube videos that he used a tarantula web as a barrier for his ant colony.. I would like to do the same and therefore I am asking the community, if someone has a tarantula and could send me a large enough amount of that spider web so I could attach it to the edge...

Re: ID Help

Okay, this is definitely Formicidae , and I think that you are probably correct in saying that this is part of the tribe Lasiini ; as it is too small for either Formica or Camponotus . However, I can't say whether this is Lasius , Nylanderia , Paratrechina , or something else. The stripes are a good...

Re: hopefully simple ID

Looks like a Crematogaster sp. It's a little hard to tell, though.
