Re: Colorado Nupital Flights

There is supposed to be a ton of thunderstorms this week. Of course, it is Colorado so you never know lol. But I'm hoping we get those afternoon storms. I know after rain storms is best to go looking, but when it rains well into the night (10PM or later), will most species wait to fly until dawn? Do...

Special Pricing

If you post prices as a GAN farmer, are you able to put additional comments on the post? I'm interested in offering lower prices for educators. I live in Colorado and we have a terrible law caller TABOR. It makes it almost impossible to raise state funding for schools. But I also know many dedicated...

Re: Do queens in their founding stage need oxygen?

Long story short, yes. But because I love biology I excluded way too much info below. You can skip it but it may be cool. They are using oxygen for sure, however (and I say all of this as a seasoned biologist but novice antkeeper) there are a few things to consider: 1) All eukaryotes use oxygen. In ...

Re: Rolling tube

Thanks. I was thinking about how to make a test tube holder. That's a good idea, I was thinking clay stands but card board seems less...sticky. lol.

Rolling tube

This may seem paranoid but I checked on my very first queen pavement ants today they had eggs! I was super happy to see that but one of their test tube rolled about 90 degrees in the box it is in. I stopped it but now I'm terrified I scared my little girl! She went like abandon her eggs or....living...

Re: Colorado Nupital Flights

And North Aurora and South Denver. Weird they appear to be flying through out the state. I wonder if there is a pharamone cascade or just really good conditions. I just got 7 queens literally right in front of my door. Also a lot of dead males are scattered around.

Re: Tetramorium omni nest question

I realize this is an old post but if you happen upon it, if you boil the sand it should work. Also, the dishwasher is sorta an almost-autoclave. It's because if the heat. Dont put detergent in! Autoclaves are the machines used to sterilize medical supply. If you sterilize something, understand that ...

Re: Colorado Nupital Flights

I go to school in Aurora near the Sandcreek reservoir. Sandcreek's path leads to a nice area by Stapleton that my friend found while running and recommended I check out for ants. I saw several colonies f by Sandcreek. So I am going to head over there and look tomorrow. I actually found my first two ...
