Light brown almost pale Lasius queens.
Okay sadly I don't have a picture but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I just spotting a Laius nest that is getting ready for flight season and I noted all the female alates were a very light almost pale brown. They moved fast and we're going in and out of the open do I do not thin...

Grand thank you. It must have been an age thing because two workers are now doing the forging and not the queen

Re: Messor Barbarus queen acting like she is semi claustral????
Yeah but she has workers now so I would have assumed like most fully claustral sort she would have left the work up to them? There is 4 workers in total.

Messor Barbarus queen acting like she is semi claustral????
Hey so I have a mate who disagrees with the shipment of ants being a problem. In fact we argue constantly over. However she got 3 messor queens from the UK and decided to give me one. It was that or she was guna kill or release and I was not guna have either of that. Now she has workers and brood no...

Re: HELP! Lasius Niger colony won't move from dried test tube to acrylic setup
Do not buy cheap setups from apps like wish or other cheap sites from China. I have BAD experience with these setups. I prepared and cleaned them exactly the same way I did with my AntsCanada products and after I eventually got the ants to move the whole colony, queen included died within 24 hours. ...

Re: Inactive workers
The ants will also use substrate to reduce ant drafts in the test tube. This will also reduce activity because it has reduced the small amount of stress in the nest because it was too exposed. I have several set ups with different substrates and all of the ones in use have done the exact same. It is...

Re: Are plaster of paris nests ok?
Messor Barbarus are from hotter areas and tolerate dryer nests as a result so the plaster should be okay and should not mold as quick since it's moisture levels do not need to be too high.

Re: Nesting
Well to be honest you kinda answered it for your self. The nest is way too big if only one chamber is being used. The fact you have a grave site and the number have seemed consistent plus there is plenty of brood would suggest that their reproduction and mortality are at the same rate. Try examining...

Re: Ant barriers in a Paludarium
It's more into the earlier days of the paladariums when he is moving the ants into it. Try the fire nantion's introduction to their one as I think that is the one. If not it is the golden empire one. As for the second question I do not recall a video where he covered this and it is something I worry...

Re: Prevent lasius niger escaping
I keep Lasius Niger and to date I have had no issues with baby powder on its own.
Regardless of size (nanitic or fully developed) it works great.
If it helps I left an ant tower open for an hour and the colony was active and no one could get out.
