Re: AntsCanada ant towers question.

I will give that a go so. Just afraid it might build up to much condonation. But I will try it today after work for roughly an hour and see how it is looking from there.
Thank you for the reply.

Re: AntsCanada ant towers question.

And another possible stupid question. What is a good way to heat only part of the ant tower? I'm cautious looking at it because I'm worried giving its shape it may cause to much condition trying to use a heat mat or cable.

Keeping Lasius flavus?

Hey guys, I am just wondering what experience you all have at keeping Lasius flavus. I know they are skittish by nature and much prefer to spend almost all of the time under ground. Is there any special requirements you feel must be taken into consideration to successfully raise a colony of these gi...

Re: Is colored aquarium sand dangerous for ants?

I would be the same! I have actually turned the warmest corner in my kitchen into the pet corner, there I have my beetles, worms and ants. My stick insect has her own little house on the kitchen table because it's a little too fancy to sit in a corner   No problem at all. Give them about o...

Re: ytong nest question

Actually, cotton is what I use  I am not sure about sponges, might be an idea to look I to how they are made and you might get a good idea of what is used in them. Then you can determine from there if they are safe. I use sponges to clean my aquariums for years with no negative results so I do ...

Re: Is colored aquarium sand dangerous for ants?

No problem. You have them in your work place or you work from home? Can Imagen you in a office scurrying around looking for a loose queen ant xD. That is completely understandable but the ants need their protein. Like I said I have a darkling beetle colony and they are just banging out eggs on a dai...

Re: My queen ant died and 50 workers are still alive what happen next?

Well I really hope you did not release them as all hope is not lost. Now, if you do manage to take good care of the ants and allow them to take care of the brood, you should check if a Lasius parasite queen can be found in your area. These queen's can only start a colony with host workers by sneakin...

Re: When Are nuptial Flights?

Sorry but I had a big informative message for you but this stupid forum signed me out when I hit send so I am afraid you will have to do with the dulled version. For an accurate time window for the flights we need to know what species of ants your interest in keeping. This can be done by first looki...

Re: Fire Ants in front of my house

It is good you decided to wait. Taking the idea of it being cruel out of the mix, a well established fire ant colony is not a beginner class colony at all. Their growth rate is unbelievable and to take in a colony already hundreds strong will be a nightmare for you. Fire ants are not beginner class ...

Re: Got Ants and Questions (beginner)

Hey, you actually do not need the hot water. For your current colony size a large back leg will do fine and it will break off better from the cricket when it is frozen. Then just let it sit for less then 5 minutes before you give it to your ants and it should be thawed out by then. Btw, you do not n...
