Re: Questions about Messor Barbarus

I have that exact nest. The blue sponge is practically useless, I did a few days test with no ants and the sponge grew mold in a matter of days so I assume it's either the material or the shipping that causes this, I suggest replacing with a thick clump of cotton as this works for me. These set ups ...

Re: Giving my ants a new beginning?

At this point the queen will not have any reserves left and will have to eat or be fed by workers from here on out to survive so the remaining workers will have to bring her food. They should have a test tube setup opened as a nest inside or connected to an outworld to forage for food.

Re: Ant Care While your on holidays

If your ants are in hibernation you are fine. If they are not and you do not have someone to look after them. Make sure you have given the outworld a good clean and then just make sure they have a fresh water supply and plenty of fresh food to sustain the the colony while you are away. If the colony...

Re: Myrmica refuse to hibernate and I am very worried about this.

Still active and I now know why. I actually over looked a small piece of information on a care sheet in regards to hibernation. In fact I feel like an ideot. Myrmica hibernate with food supplies fulls in winter. Queeny won't hibernate because she feels there is not enough food in the test tube. So I...

Re: black crazy ant

Well, they can always die from things like attacks, diseases, or mite infestations. They're not invulnerable. All colonies will eventually die. But yes is you can avoided or treat the above if possible these have what I call the ability to break biology and science calls double cloning. Not sure if...

Re: It's my first time keeping a queen ant and I need help

The universe what's you to keep ants so. I'm not sure about trap jaw ants in terms of keeping but regardless of species you should try get something like a test tube set up asap. The idea is to mimic a closed and safe environment that acts like a little tunnel in soils and such, I hope she is mated ...

Only other suggestion I would say was that to leave them alone in a dark place for long periods of time, just checking water every month or two.
Yeah I have not gone near them since so I am no longer sure if she is still active.

Re: Lasius social parasite

What approach did you take to introduce them?
I see most people try slow the workers down but should the queen be chilled out also? Also is there a way to ease them into it rather then just openly putting them straight into the same container and hoping for the best?
