Re: lasius workers

One part of me says do not do it but the other part just keeps saying do it put for for a reason. There is recent Lasius behaviour to suggest a possibility of a stinger or another defensive/ offensive tactic is at play with these girls as they have shown actions like these when threatened and or fed...

Lasius Niger hibernation.

So it's coming up to the end of September and I noticed my fastest growing colony does look like there are any eggs left since I moved them into a clean set up. I guess with the time of year it could be normal and it is also possible I cannot simply see the eggs beneath the cluster of different stag...

Re: Pheidole Sp. Habitat

That looks amazing. The hard part will be keeping the soul/sand moist enough so the ants can dig tunnels but not to wet so they flood. For this set up he can take a page out of AC's book of tricks and use a tube with holes, attached to a pump and timer to simulate rainfall, makes it more realistic ...

Re: Live feeding vs. dead feeding

It seems you got to see first hand why most of us refuse to give live food to our ants. Do not get me worng I love my ants, but a frozen cricket leg and some freshly cooked ham get the responses any pet owner could hope for (minus one Lasius Niger colony that I am struggling to feed protein too but ...

Re: Non-Bug Protein Sources?

I just had great results from a piece of cooked ham so any kind of meat seems to be accepted once cooked. If you ants are eating the salmon then I would assume it is okay as I believe ants won't eat what they don't want or like. They are not like dogs who will anything, ants can be picky so if you f...

Re: Death by food

It also depends on the food you use. I ise honey from a jar, the one people would use in place of sugar for tea and coffee. It's not as sticky and my ants seem to sit on it while eating and walk away (these are also nanitics so they are tiny) that in mind I though one had gotten stuck and died but a...

Re: Just a question about when queens that do not fly.

Yes I am aware, but what about someone like me who has two different species both with a single queen? Haha. There are still design issues I have to figure out before I can put this on paper but the idea is sound. Like how to in sure the workers do not bother with the dome and do not get caught in a...
