Chicago Camponotus GAN

Just posted three Camponotus Pennsylvanicus
Colonies to the GAN project, one a year old, two from this year's flight. Hopefully I can spread some ant love :D

Yellow water!?

I recently gave my two hibernating Camponotus Pennsylvanicus colonies (still in tubes) fresh tubes. One of the tubes is as it should be. White cotton, clear water. The other however has gone yellow and I have no idea why or what could have caused it. Help??

Re: Feeding dry dog food to ants

Re: Test tube cleaning

Cheap wood BBQ skewers from any big box store/dollar store. Stick the pointy end into the cotton, and twist the cotton out like a wine cork.

Re: ants carrying mealworm to the eggs

Re: Native Ants in Chicagoland

No problem. Here's a peek at my queens and their living quarters. The foil is taken off the tubes for visibility sake.

They are large, haven't been able to climb passed my babypowder barrier (both colonies are in a Tubs & Tubes set up for ease of feeding and maintenance). While I'm very much new to antkeeping(caught my queens in Aurora this spri...

Re: Camponotus/Tapinoma Queen, I'm in big trouble.

Another option is to contact local schools and see if they would be interested in having an ant farm (the proper non-gel kind). If you can get to and from the schools in question without screwing up your normal day to day schedule, you can also volunteer to help care for the colony. If a school agre...

Just checked it on my end, still worked for me. Is there another way of attaching it?

Re: Our Camponotus Colony

My wife's Galaxy S7. We were very surprised by the quality as well. It was really cool to see everything not only in person, but to also glance down to see so much detail.
