Polyrhachis dives move or not to move?

Hello everyone. I have a colony of Polyrhachis dives with about 30-40 workers. They are in a test tube setup for now and was wondering if I should move them soon. It doesn't seem too overcrowded but a lot of them have been pulling on the cotton. What size of container would be good for such a colony...

Re: Need help with camponotus

First of all thank you for the replies. Secondly you did just tell me what I was kind of already thinking just wasn't sure. The one who laid eggs but never developed might have been infertile because in the two and half months I never saw anything more than eggs. The one with the workers might have ...

Re: Need help with camponotus

Yeah I know that stressing them can cause this. But I was super careful with the most recent one that I caught. After I caught the queen I put her away from any kind of disturbances in a separate box and probably the first time I check on here was after a month and that was just through the gap in t...

Re: Need help with camponotus

All of them have been kept in standard test tubes setups. And I keeps the tubes in a cardboard box with the lid slightly open for air circulation just in case.

Need help with camponotus

Hello. So I'm having trouble with camponotus ants. I'v had 4 camponotus queens. Three herculeanus and one ligniperdus. And all of them have either died or are having problems. My most recent one that I caught late may, iirc, had a huge amount of brood, but none of it ever developed any further than ...

Re: Need ID - North/east Europe 13.06

Thank you for the reply. Don't really care about Camponotus one just wanted to know what the other one was.
So I guess there is no point in keeping the Formica one? Is there? No idea if I would be able to find Formica pupae.

Need ID - North/east Europe 13.06

I'm from Latvia, a country in the north east of Europe. Today on the 13th of June I went to a forest to look for camponotus ants. Although I saw lots and lots of workers only managed to capture one camponotus herculeanus (I think) queen and one other that I have not seen before. I would really appre...

Re: Mold in test tubes

I wouldn't worry too much, the amount of mold in that test tubes is not a lot, but if you really want to take care of your queens and have the highest success rate then I would move the queen to a clean test tube, just like SomeRandomAnt said. Also if possible use bottled water so there's a smaller ...

Re: Caught a Harvester Ant Queen.

First time hearing that harvester ants cant be raised in a test tube. I had 2 messor barbarus queens both in test tubes. The one that I moved to proper nest is the one that died unfortunately but the other one I kept in the test tube and shes doing fine, pumping out brood like a champ.
