Ah, a little disappointing as far as a future colony goes, but interesting none the less!

I will post updates on her and her offspring here, and keep them fed. Will be posting pictures soon^^

AHH, help please. First workers were not workers, but male alate? Is this normal?

So one of my solenopsis Invicta Queens had some rather large larva when I decided to take a peak to ensure no queens had died etc etc I found it odd, but paid no mind. Until her first "worker" arrived. It is a winged male alate. I originally believed queens did not start having queens and male alate...

She Always Looks Dead

One of my brachymyrmex queens was caught with a slightly bent/curved abdomen, and when she isn't moving she looks like she is curled up dead in some positions. This always freaks me out haha, but then she moves around again and I realize my heart attack was for nothing. This just amuses me, so I tho...

Re: Tiny ant ID needed

No problem and thank you as well!
How long will those be having their nuptial flights? And are the queens much larger than him?

Tiny ant ID needed

She was found today in my pool, Dallas area, I say "she" lightly as it could very well be a tiny male. However, I am not sure what the species is and either way I would love to know! The ant in question is 2-3mm in size, and nearly impossible to get a decent photo of RIP Appears to be red and black....

Re: Queen ID Needed

Thanks! Yeah I am in Plano! Trying to get better at identifying ants :'D but I have a long way to go.
And nice! Though I am pretty sure my parents would kill me if I spent money on ants, will probably stick to selling them and catching them myself.

Queen ID Needed

I believe she is a phiedole? Maybe Solenopsis, both look very similar to me. She is about 7mm and was found today in the Dallas area, in my pool.

Re: Queen and Male(probably) Ant IDs Needed

Awesome! And I also just found this little one, only about 5-6mm and all black. I cant tell if it is a male or a female, and I don't have a clue as to its species, any help here? Again found in the Dallas area, in my pool.

Re: Queen and Male(probably) Ant IDs Needed

Thanks! And oh gosh, apparently I have 12 fire ant queens then lol, will probably sell or release most of them I suppose. Are they terribly fast growing? And question about Brachymyrmex queens, do they nest with multiple queens?
