Re: Sugar water recipe
While we are on the subject, has anyone found a good BCAA substitute in the USA for the Honeydew surrogate recipe? I haven't been able to find liquid anywhere but I'm thinking of trying a GNC version that is plain powder in caplets. No colors or flavors or filler.

Noob needs help with camponotus pennsylvanicus
So I'm new to ant keeping. I have a Formica subsericea queen with 1 worker and some larva that I purchased. I have 2 colonies of what I'm pretty sure is Montimorium Minimum that I dug out of the ground that are doing OK. While splitting firewood a few weeks ago I happened upon what I believe is camp...

Re: Another Queen ant ID post (with picture)
Thanks everyone. They are thriving, I'm working on a DIY formicarium now. Also captured a black carpenter ant queen with 5 larva while chopping firewood. She was none too happy to be disturbed but has settled in to her test tube nicely. This is my first year keeping ants, I've been reading and doing...

Re: NC ants
There is a massive nest of camponotus castaneus in my front yard. I check every night but no nuptials yet. I really want to keep this species.

Re: Another Queen ant ID post (with picture)
She is doing well in captivity and is eating. Hard to tell with my weak eyes but I believe she has brood. Macro lens for my phone should be here tomorrow so I'm hoping to get better pics.
