@VanLee I thought so too at first but I don't think so! They definitely have the distinctive ant queen features.

@Batspiderfish, thank you! Is this a good species to keep for beginners?

Well I went back and looked at some of his solenopsis videos and they grow grazy!! I think I'll follow y'alls advice and look for a different species that maybe doesn't grow so large so quick

Oh man.. Well thanks for the info! I'm waiting for some rain so I can go look for more of different species.

Would something like an Omni Nest large from AC not help prevent escapees?

Queen identification? Dallas, TX USA - May 22nd

I caught her in the middle of a Walmart parking lot at around 8pm in Dallas. Took her home and put her in a test tube set up and she started laying eggs right away! She's about 5 /16" or 8mm long.

Found my first queen! Genus/species ID help?

I found her on May 22nd in Dallas TX in the middle of a Walmart parking lot at around 8pm. Got her home and put her in a test tube set up and she started laying eggs right away!
