Re: A Parasitic Queen Success

The workers I caught are also very, very small compared to the queen so even if they turned on her she could defend herself.

Re: A Parasitic Queen Success

There are 6 workers and about 15-17 cocoons. I think you could have as little as 3 workers but going over 10 may not be a good idea. From observing the queen meeting the workers it looked like it was going best when she met with only 1 or 2 of the workers at a time.

The main inhabitants of the park are Wood Ants or Mound Ants, species like Formica rufa and Formica ulkei. I was bikin...

Re: Help identifying a queen from Calgary

Camponotus is a very good beginner species to keep from what I have heard. It take a long time for the colony to become a good size. Are Wood Ants Polygamous?

In my area there are Wood Ant colonies everywhere. Does anyone know if they are polygamous, meaning they will accept more than a single queen?

Myrmica incompleta & Murmica sp.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am looking to catch Myrmica incompleta & Murmica sp. in the next 3 months during their nuptial flight, whenever that is. Could anyone tell where I could catch queens once nuptial flight begins and if someone could tell when their nuptial flight i...
