Do ant eggs hatch in winter season? (Australia)

Ive got 9 queens and they have laid eggs. The eggs haven't hached and its been like 3 months already! I was wondering if its because it is winter here in Australia (WA) and they dont hatch in winter. My queens do seem to be slowing down. The species is Iridomyrmex. Bicknelli. Thnx for the help!

Re: Why arent my queen ant eggs hatching? NEED REPLY SOON

Could it be that the queen is hungry and needs some food so she keeps eating the eggs and lays new ones? I think you should offer her some honey or perhaps a bit of an insect so she can eat something. It's good to hear that you can manage to only check once a week on her. ive tried feeding her but ...

Why arent my queen ant eggs hatching? NEED REPLY SOON

I've had 9 Iridomyrmex Bicknelli (they're australian ants) queen ants for about 7 weeks now since they laid eggs. I dont know why but none of them have even hatched into larvae yet! I thought at first they may be infertile but I would expect that at least one of them would hatch and they seem normal...

I just caught a formica queen, and I have a few questions.
1) are the semi or fully claustral?
2)is one queen enough to start a colony?
Thank you!!
1) Formica queens are fully claustral
2) yes, one queen is definitely enough to start a colony. I wouldnt try to put more than one queen together

Re: Umm... Where’s the second egg?

Hello everyone! My Camponotus subbarbatus queen just laid an egg three days ago and has been tending to it very closely, but shouldn’t she have laid a second egg by now, or am I just being to impatient... Here’s a picture of her. http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh590/CatnAnts/618BC7CC-2535-4200...

Re: Test-tube “chamber” size and humidity

I think anywhere from 3-5cm chamber is fine. The humidity is something the test tube does itsellf and i think just a normal test tube should just be fine

Re: My queen injured her leg

If it's severe then you can't really do anything but if it's just a leg that's slightly injured then it should be fine.
