I found three Queen ants in the bay area of California, specifically mountain view. It was June 22 and they were stuck in the morning dew of a car. They haven't dropped their wings yet and are are 8 1/2 to 9 mm long. I also want to know if i can keep them together. I wasn't prepared when i caught th...

not an expert of identification expert (yet ;) ) but it kind of looks like pheidole
I'm far from a expert and almost thought she was a tetramorium at first but after looking up pics of pheidole l would definitely agree. Would be cool to have a species with majors. :D

Queen ant found 5/28/18 in mountain view, CA

I found her in my aunt's pool in mountain view, California. She doesn't run around much and so far hasn't been a great climber, possibly due to the plastic test tube she is in. There were several males in the pool around her but no other females that I could see. She is 9mm long. https://drive.googl...

Re: Possible queen ant (not sure) found in the CA

I wasn't very sure to start out and wanted to be sure. I'm pretty new to the hobby so I've been catching anything that vaguely (barely) shows a resemblance to a alate. :P I know it's early in the year but I'm excited to start a colony of my own and I get ahead of myself. :D and thank you for your he...

Possible queen ant (not sure) found in the CA

I am on the peninsula of California. I found it on the edge of a bucket of water and it didn't try to fly away (and hasn't tried to fly since). It is small, about 3 1/2 mm. The linked pictures are the best I could get, the little thing won't sit still for more than a 1/2 of a second so it took a whi...

Re: California Ant Watch

Sad that they died but it's good to know that the season for Prenolepis imparis is starting. I'll keep an eye out for them and always keep some containers on me as Mikey says to in his videos.

(bay area, California) i found some dead alates and i don't know the species

I found them in a old and abandoned spider web afew feet from a cluster of small ant mounds. I didn't see any workers at the mounds but they look like they were maintained. The date is February fifth but the dead alates in the pictures could be from a far passed nuptial flight. They are about 4mm in...

Re: I think I found some queen ants but I don't know the species (California, USA)

Those are all Argentine ants (Linepethima humile). They’re an extremely invasive species and have killed off a large portion of the Bay Area’s native ant population. If you put them all together in a setup the queens will get along, and you’ll have a massive colony. In fact, ants of this species fr...

I think I found some queen ants but I don't know the species (California, USA)

I live in the bay area of California and am new to ant keeping and the forum. I found these queens today (Sunday, feb. 4) after watering my front planter box. I have been observing this colony for a while now and I'm pretty sure (judging by its above ground trails) that it spans almost my entire fro...
