How many Queens in one test tube
I had a messor aciculatus us colony which I moved into a hybrid nest 2.0 too soon and they didn't do well. I recently moved them back into a test tube and decided to boost the colony with three new queen's. 2 have joined one is resisting. I was wondering how many Queens is it advised to keep in one ...

Re: Nest too big?
I just took them out of hibernation 2 days ago maybe it was too early.JoeHostile1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 10:54 amJust so you know aciculatus do extremely poorly without hibernation. They will also basically take almost all the seeds you offer them to store in their nest, especially before winter.

Re: Nest too big?
how big is the colony ant # wise? If the colony is two small I would stop feeding them seeds for now and lower the humility a bit if you can It's quite small. I have a test tube full of seeds attached to the nest which Ill remove. But how does lower humidity help? Is it just for reduced mold chance...

Nest too big?
My messor aciculatus colony live in an AC hybrid nest 2.0 and there's only 17 ants total. I was wondering if the nest is too big as they have filled many chambers full of seeds, I'm afraid they will eventually mold and potentially kill of my colony as I doubt they can eat them as fast as they're bri...

Re: Condensation in hybrid nest
Condensation is formed when warm air meets a cool surface. So the heating cable is warming the air inside the nest which hits the cold glass and then forms droplets of water. To prevent this you need to either heat the air inside the nest less or increase the temperature of the glass. The condensat...

Condensation in hybrid nest
My messor aciculatus queen and 20 workers are in a hybrid nest 2.0 and there is condensation on the glass surface. I have a heating cable in use. I was wondering how to stop this condensation and if it may be due to to much humidity. Also the ants seem to be far less active when they are near the co...

Re: Hybrid nest 2.0 heating cable
I don't want to be a nuisance but my last question is will an on/off thermostat work for a heat cable because I don't know if I can afford a pulse or dim thermostat.
