New ant queen

Hellow, found this little lady on a dog walk around 4 pm in the afternoon in Bozeman, MT. It was warm, with a chill wind blowing through. Last rain was a couple days ago too. https://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg156/tzakeran/edited-image_3.png https://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg156/tzakeran/edit...

Re: Prenolepis Imparis and Camponotus sp.

Alrighty, so the Winter Ant colony is doing well. Slow and steady, just got her 5th worker a couple days ago with two more pupae on the way and about 10-15 more eggs in the brood mix. Camponotus I'm leaving alone, checked on one of the Camponotus queens a couple days ago. She was still but no eggs, ...

Re: Prenolepis Imparis and Camponotus sp.

Understood, I'll use a test tube portal to give the second some lower humidity options. Thanks for all the info. I'll do an update in a couple weeks or so.

Re: Prenolepis Imparis and Camponotus sp.

Good plan, I'll follow that. Would you know about their humidity preferences? I allowed one queen to choose between four test tubes of varying levels of water via an AntsCanada Portal, and she picked the one with the least amount behind the cotton. The other queen is in a tube that's half full of wa...

Prenolepis Imparis and Camponotus sp.

Good day to all, I have a fledgling Prenolepis Imparis colony, up to 4 workers with the queen, with still more brood and eggs being produced, and some Camponotus sp. I caught recently. I'd like to ask if anyone has run into queens staying active almost looking agitated while in test tubes and consta...

Awesome! I was thinking she might be in the Camponotus family with that big head! Thanks for the ID!

30 June 2019 Rocky mountains in Montana

Found this little big beauty before a thunderstorm hit. Only one I saw at all that day, no other species were in flight. She was aggressive towards the cotton when first put into the test tube. She's roughly 18-20mm long, with a pretty large and wide head. Time of day was about 2 pm that afternoon, ...

Ant Queen ID, ants from the beach!

Found this beautiful creature with my 2 year old neice on the beach in Pensacola FL. Specifically on the NAS base near the old lighthouse.
