I found 2 of these. One about 9:30 am and one at 7:00 pm. I'm a little curious because I first thought they were velvet ants. They are pretty clumsy and have a difficult time righting themselves after they are on their backs. They can't do it on glass. They don't climb well.
Date: August 10
Location: American Fork Canyon
Elevation: 6600 feet
Environment: Open fir and maple forest with meadows. On the edge of an asphalt trailhead parking walking on the ground litter.
Length: 1 cm
Thanks for your help

If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
