Queen identify plz...
OK, So I just found this queen, 3 nanitics, and some eggs and brood. I believe her to be a Camponotus sp but can anyone tell me which for sure? She's very pretty.

C. castaneus is a large species of Camponotus. This is Camponotus subbarbatus, or a close relative.

I was iffy on the castaneus part. That ID makes more sense.

I agree with Camponotus subbarbatus or a closely related sp.

I've done a little research and I need to check the hairs on the face pretty much to become 100% certain but I agree with Camponotus subbarbatus. All though I caught her with a few workers already, I hope they continue to grow under my care. Are all Camponotus sp slow growing btw?

Pretty much. This depends on if you heat them or not, but still slow nonetheless.xTNxANTMANx wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2017 7:07 pmI've done a little research and I need to check the hairs on the face pretty much to become 100% certain but I agree with Camponotus subbarbatus. I know right. I found her to be a very beautiful species. I hope everything is well in the end and she continues to lay eggs. I would really love to build a colony with this species.

It's such a shame that she's not native to the UK, I'd love to have a colony of those
The only Camponotus im aware of in UK is Camponotus britteni, and they aren't nearly as pretty
