Please ID my queen ants
G'day.
I caught these 3 queens at around 2pm on 24/09/16. I live in the southern suburbs of Melbourne.
Will add the sizes when I get home
Sorry about the terrible pictures, phone doesn't like focusing on the ants.
Im pretty sure this is sufficient info.

They look like Lasius neoniger queens. They will not lay eggs until after hibernation though so you have to be very patientshaky33 wrote:G'day.

Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Re: Please ID my queen ants
They cant be Lasius Neoniger queens as two of them already laid a couple of eggs. Any other ideas?

Please include a measurement.
Guys, remember that the location is in Australia.

Re: Please ID my queen ants
Probably isn't Niger, because that's mostly European.
I know it is a Lasius queen, but I'm not sure what species. I would think Flavus if they are found over there.

Re: Please ID my queen ants
I think they're just a little too dark to be lasius flavus queens. I've done a small amount of research online and the closest i've found is Brachymyrmex. But I am still new to this soo im probaly wrong.AnthonyP163 wrote:Probably isn't Niger, because that's mostly European.

Re: Please ID my queen ants
There are no Lasius in Australia. The queen looks too big to be Brachymyrmex, but we're still waiting on measurements. Better pictures from more angles would help as well.

The first two queens are 6mm. But the second one was a bit over 5mm. Hope this helps!!
