Just cover them up and leave them be. When My colony was connected to a test tube portal, they hardly ever came out. I believe its fear since they are a small group. Eventually i saw them get more courage to explore on their own.

I think its just cause its a small colony cause mine were the same way. Just be patient. When they are hungry, they will forage. When they feel its time to find a new home, they will.

They might be in hibernation, so put a light over them with a black cloth so they can heat up but still be in the dark.
