Hello ant lovers,
So I have a colony of tetramorium sp. e (about 20 workers, I know kinda small) that I moved into their setup a couple of weeks ago. They were fine for a couple of days in their hybrid nest connected to their outworld, but then one night they just disappeared. I thought they had escaped or mysteriously died, but then I began to see some workers foraging about in the outworld. I put some food in there for them where I thought they had dug a nest, and three or so workers began working on it. I watched a worker take a little clump of food across the outworld and disappear, I think into a tunnel entrance. I have also watched either workers disappear near the same area. I have put a new test tube setup into their outworld, covered it, and put a straw through the opening, while waiting for the outworld to dry. Is there anything else I can do to get them to move out? Any help is appreciated!

I guess you have to just dry it out. Maybe put a reptile heat lamp over the Outworld to speed it up.

Whats the substrate? Is the out-world dirt? If so i don't think you will ever get them to stay out of the dirt. My formicariums are grout bottomed so they don't dig in it. I think they will always prefer ant made nests over human made nests. Don't let it dry out completely or else you may endanger the brood and ants.
With all the things ants can do, you wonder, who rules the planet

Yea it is dirt, I realize my mistake now Would it be ok to kind of dig around to get them to move out? At this point I would be fine if I had to completely restart and take everything out of the outworld to replace it with a more ant proof setup.AntsRule wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 6:54 pmWhats the substrate?
