what would be good to give to a 5 worker colony? one tends to keep moving around the exit cotton looking for a way out. :geek:
not sure if i should give them food or at that what would be good for them. :shock:
is move them into the formicarium better or just keep them in a testtube :?:
the queen is 5mm pretty small workers around half that. i believe she is a Monomorium sp. :ugeek:

its better to wait till 8 to 10 workers how ever in your case what you can do is just remove a cotton and place test tube in a container at the opening of the test tube, place a drop of sugar water and see if any worker comes out to have a taste of it. If no worker is interested in getting out of the test tube, just place the cotton once again and wait for the colony to have some more workers.

If they are trying to get out of the tube, then it is time to feed them. You should offer sugary liquid and small arthropods like Drosophila vinegar flies.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.

also, it is helpful to take a one inch long section of drinking straw and stick it between the exit cotton and the side ofthe tube. place the whole setup in an outworld, and place food in that outworld.

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

where did you hear that? You should provide them a way to a foraging ground as soon as the first nanitic arrives. All of my colonies have wanted to forage at only 1 or two workers. :)

Don't forget that they need a source of protein as well.
