Insectaslip/berrier-where?!?
Sup, I have now prepared an outworld for my ants. But, I dont really know what barrier I should use!?!!?
What are the options?
I have heard of PTFE (at least thats what I think its called) but where do I find it?
I have also heard of babypowder, how do I prepare that?
Thanks!

Re: Insectaslip/berrier-where?!?
Three popular options:
Fluon (PTFE)- Best, most expensive, hardest to acquire. I just ordered some, myself, and waiting for it to be delivered. My advice would be to check out some other sites that sell formicaria, and find one closest to you (maybe antkit). Your goal here is to find the lowest shipping cost.
Baby Powder w/ Rubbing Alcohol- Cheap, mostly effective. Ratio isn't really important. The baby powder is the barrier, and the alcohol is used to get it to stick. Works better for some species over others (although, the same can be said for any of these methods, including Fluon)
Vaseline- Easiest to apply, messy, stinky. I use this for my semi-claustral queen setups, because they can't climb, anyway.
These are the most commonly used, experiment and see what works best for your ants. There are also other ant deterrents, such as chalk, citrus, etc. but I never really see any of those discussed here.

Yes.There is a lid, too. It is all I had on hand at the time. I wasn't prepared when I found the queens. The bigger problem for me is that there are no connection holes in the tupperware they are in. Transferring them to something else should be... interesting.tiger01vincent wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2017 11:00 amWait, cant even the workers climb walls if their queen is semi chlusteral!?!?ACaseoftheMondays wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2017 9:29 amThree popular options:

Re: Insectaslip/berrier-where?!?
I was just saying that my particular queens can't climb, so I wasn't too worried about it at the moment.tiger01vincent wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2017 4:20 pmsorry, I did not understand, semi chlusteral queen species CAN'T climb walls?ACaseoftheMondays wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2017 11:14 amYes.There is a lid, too.
