The start of 2017

Ok so yesterday was the first day I noticed a nuptial flight of Solenopsis (fireants) here in Alabama. In about 10-15mins I caught around 15 before I had to stop (was at work). So not too bad I guess, have all the lady's in test tubes now and they will go in the brooding closet when I get home.

I'm not surehow common they are where you are, but 15 in 15 minutes seems insane to me! :o Good work! :D

I am completely jealous. I put miles on almost every day and haven't found a single queen, lots of ants just no queens....

I had the same luck this year and last year. I only kept two this year though. Last year I made the mistake and kept about 100 colonies in 100 different test tubes. It was havoc taking care of them after they had their workers. I thought they were going to sell faster on GAN, but only one got sold, so that's why I kept only 2 this year they laid eggs within a few hours of being in a tube though :)

Yea last year I caught and kept over 100 queens. My advice it catch a couple more then you plan to have as colonies and that's it. There is always the chance you may get a infertile queen or one may die off so the extra 1 or two can make up for that.

As of now I have 10 Solenopsis queens that have laid eggs in their tubes. Oh an yea they get mad at me when I shine a light in to see how they are doing. LOL

Still no luck here. I spent about 4 hour looking today, seeing tons of ants just no queens....
