Ants can be scavengers. They should be able to eat the bee.

Which species?

That doesn't tell anything. Thief ants like Solenopsis molesta take a very short time from egg to worker. Larger species like S. invicta or S. geminata take around one to one and a half months.

I'm not trying to be rude, but the abbreviations like "sp." and "spp." refer to a "species" and "hybrid species"(?) or a "species complex" respectively. They are not actual species, but used when a species is not assigned to an identification.

Solenopsis sp just means "any Solenopsis" but there are vastly different Solenopsis, like red fire ants (Solenopsis invicta and geminata) and super tiny thief ants (Solenopsis molesta and fugax).

Saying "I have Solenopsis sp" is like saying "I have a dog" - could be a tiny chihuahua, a giant irish wolfhound or anything in between.
