I have a queen ant that I want to start a conlony with and I was wondering what would be the cheapest set up

Right now you will just want to keep her in a test tube for a good while until she has a few workers. 10 - 20 is normally a good number of workers but also depending on the size of your species. Making a grout nest is a pretty cheap way to go. There's many different options you have. Just Google them. Plenty of YouTube videos as well on how to make homemade nests

also look up bead orginizer formicariums. They are super cheap and easy to make.
