Honestly, I have 6 colonies. Only 1(Camponotus subbarbatus) I found in her chamber with no workers and few eggs in early march. 3 (Aphaenogaster and Tapinoma) I found by accident but only had 15-25 workers tops when I found them. And the other 2 (Camponotus subarbatus) just had nanitics, one had 3 and the other 5. I have yet to find one out and about :-) but it takes time. And I am hoping with the weather today and next few days I get lucky! It just takes time and patience.
Oh, and I only had 1 colony and I found the rest by accident searching for termites to feed them. They LOVE termites!
Keeping:
Camponotus subbarbatus
Formica pallidefulva x2
Formica subsericea x4
Lasius sp
Tetramorium immigrans x2
Dorymyrmex bureni

Founding:
Formica pallidefulva
Unknown sp x2

You've gotta just relax and give yourself time.
