Lasius niger in Ohio?
Hey all. I have been thinking about getting into the hobby for a bit over a year now and was hoping to either buy a Lasius niger queen and small brood or find a new friend that may be able to go out and help me find a queen myself. I live in southern Ohio and saw that the Ohio GAN farmer is currently out so I thought I might as well post here

L. niger is a European species primarily. You'll find Lasius neoniger in the early fall over here.

When you go outside looking for them are you in the grass? woods? sidewalk? front porch?

Lasius alienus will fly July through August. Lasius neoniger, Lasius pallitarsis, Lasius flavus, and Lasius nearcticus will fly August through September and October. You can find various Lasius social parasites year-round, but most will be flying along with L. neoniger.
