Vague question I know, and no picture, but educated guesses?

Okay, I know its kind of vague, but I don't know who else to ask.
What kinds of eastern USA ants would be less than 1 mm in length? I saw exactly one of them yesterday, at an angle crawling on the side, it didn't _seem_ to have a tiny waist, just three tubular body segments, short sturdy legs, and dark color maybe black. It was so small I can't be certain of anything, and I have no way to take a pic of anything that small even if I had thought of it.
I know you can't say for certain, or even for probable, but do you know of any kinds of worker ants that are that small that would not be killed by bigger ants of a different kind (with a tiny waist, segments different shapes, thin legs, brownish)?

there is absolutely no way to ID without pictures.
Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

What kind of ants are less than 1mm, maybe 0.5mm or less? I asked that in a search engine and just got garbage back. So, I ask you guys in case you happen to know. No reason any of you should know. There is supposed to be a saying in some Spanish-speaking countries that goes something like "In the land of the blind, Cyclops is king". So maybe there is somebody with a liiiiittle knowledge who can be a cyclops to my blindness. ;)

Indiana has no invasive ants. SpeciesK and I both live there.
