There's no specific time in which ants remove their wings. It may be when they land, when they dig their chamber, or maybe the workers will remove them.

There's no general rule. Some queen remove them even though they are infertile and some queens keep them for a lifetime even after they established a massive colony.

Research has found that female alates will usually remove their wings after seperation from their colony. This doesnt always occur but is common.
