Alates mating in dishes?

I ended up at a video online

where they had caught a lot of "princess" and "drone" ants and put a princess and three drones in a petri dish and it showed the princess get hyper and then find a drone, it attaching to her and mating, and even the male seemingly in the process of dying right afterwards. Then the queen tore off its wings in the dish.
If I caught a lot of alates and put them in dishes then will they mate right there in the dish without flying?
That would maybe be a lot easier than trying to find a separate queen wandering around...
