Please explain gel ant farms. :geek:
I see comments that they are bad but not why they are bad.
What is the gel made of? Do ants actually eat it? Or just move it around?
Are they okay for any kinds of ants?
How about temporary queen housing?

The gel was designed by NASA as a solid, edible, and translucent substrate to study the effects of zero-gravity on invertebrates. It was not designed for the long-term habitation of ants, and will eventually mold and kill everything inside. It does not provide full nutrition for ants either.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
