The most convinient method obviously.

What if I have the iPhone 7?

Most of us ant keepers are also keepers of other cold-blooded animals like reptiles and arachnids which also need heat. Keeping ants in a room with such animals makes things easy because such rooms tend to be much warmer due to all the heat lamps, etc.

Heating a room, as opposed to a nest has its advantages, e.g. less condensation.

When I lived in Toronto, I also found it useful to block up all vents so air conditioning couldn't cool the ant room during the summer months nor heat the ant room during the winter months, so the ants could literally hibernate in the same room and place they were kept in the summer. No moving the colony to change their temperature, just staying in the same place all year as the temperature changes with the season.

Happy anting and happy hibernation to you in the Northern Hemisphere!

The "swedish fire" as we call it here in Germany is an environmentally-friendly way to keep your ants warm. Admittedly the CO2 emissions are sort of an issue but then it is nontoxic and even completely decomposable. Just put the test tube holder/formicarium on top of it and you're fine.

Why aren't we just using the youtube comments section at this point? It obviously generates enough heat.
