I emailed Brian Fisher and asked him what hibernation is like for the ants here. In the Bay, there's this thing called an Indian Summer where Autumn stays hot, and it doesn't get cold until winter. In fact, September, October, and November are some of the hottest months. What he told me was very interesting:

"Unlike in more cooler regions, ants do not hibernate in the Bay area but life cycles such a reproduction (when winged queens and males are produced) and foraging patterns are determined by the weather and climate."

I thought that was really interesting and awesome. I still have to hibernate my colony though since their from Sacramento lol.

Something I did not know! Funny, because ants don't hibernate here, and I never really looked into it a lot.

It's gonna make raising Bay Area Camponotus colonies a lot easier too
