Adopting wild ants.

So I have a colony of tiny pavement ants aka tetramorium living under my guard house at work. Their colony has picked the perfect place as where they enter and exit has zero foot traffic and has alot of bugs as it's below a spot light.i was very excited to discover them. So I have now started to drop a bit of my Apple every night I work so I can watch them as the night drags on into the early morning. They seem to like frozen fruit more then fresh I guess that's because they are softer and easily broken down. I might go get a small bottle of honey for them as well.
And yes my coworker thinks I'm nuts but I don't care

Update: great night for ant watching. They are currently breaking down 4 bugs and a gummy Bear I have them yesterday. I'm surprised to see them traveling so far for food. They have a moth down about 10 feet away of the colony entrance.

I do the same at my work while I'm on break that is. There is a colony of Lasius alienus close to a light pole and since .y work is just miles from a river, mayflies are abundant and I snag 1 or 2 each night for them to feast. It sure helps the time pass

I just feed the colonies by my house and when I'm lifeguarding.

My work did a big clean up the first day on my vacation so I'm worried they will be gone when I get back to work.

I feed a huge pogo colony in my yard. My 5-year old daughter is always happy to pull grasshopper's heads off to feed the ants. At work I just watch them because if they get too big, they might get poisoned.

My colony at work seems fine but definitely not as big. I think they have lost a few hundred. And it's great to hear your daughter is into ants as well. I'm not to worried about pest control as my guard house is detached from the main building and they really don't care about us.
