My queen won't lay eggs
My queen won't lay eggs
I caught a male and female alate during last week of September and the next day the male was dead and the female's wing were off. My guess is that she's pregnant. But now it's the end of October and she still hasn't laid any eggs. Help any options in what's happening or what I could do to help her lay faster. Her specie is Tetramorium sp. E and I'm in Idaho U.S.A.

Re: My queen won't lay eggs
Your queen may not be laying eggs because she is waiting 'till after hibernation to start a colony, and it is unusual that you would find a Tetramorium Sp. E queen in September.

I'm new to ant keeping so my colonies are all still in test tubes.

Yeah... please make an ID post with pictures of your queens. I'm very sure it's not tetramorium. Prob. Lasius Neoniger from the time of the year .
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
