Be patient. It may take a while. (If it makes you feel any better, I've been ant keeping for a while and this year I haven't seen any queens other than Tetramorium. I also haven't been looking very much though.) I think I saw someone say that Lasius Niger isn't found in Canada. They said to look for Lasius Neoniger. Lasius Neoniger usually flies later in the year (September where I live) And they often wait to lay eggs till after hibernation.

I would like to add that the presence of Lasius niger in North America looks sketchy, and possibly could be mis-IDs of Lasius alienus.

Anyways, just be patient and look around. Lasius alienus have started to fly in North America, and the other Lasius are soon to come. You just can't miss their large flights if you are lucky enough to be outside during one. ;)
