I am not suggesting this is a queen, but I cannot get a good idea from antweb.
Anybody know what the heck it is?
Ant, Beetle, Queen, worker, Cthulhu, zerg?
I picked it up in Houston, (technically Bellaire) on june 15th. I saw the exact same ant in a second area a block away. Both were on the sidewalk near the grass. I grabbed it mostly because I am so used to only seeing fire ants that it surprised me. It is 1cm long.
Does not like light.
Is very fast.
My first time using a macro lens, and the bugger was not cooperating. As I said, very fast.
If a picture highlighting any particular part would help, let me know.

Re: Houston Texas MAY 15
My wife informed me I am not a time traveler.
It was May 15th. Just this last Tuesday. I am not sure how to edit the title.

Pseudomyrmex gracilis worker.
