WA QUEEN ID
I haven't seen anymore ants like this around, she has some eggs but that is about all. I just got her up from hibernation, her tube was completely dry, trying to get her to move to new tube now.
Any input would be appreciated.

Re: WA QUEEN ID
Pogonimyrmex Occidentalis would be my guess. It looks really similar to the one I have.Mortamir wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 8:13 pmI haven't seen anymore ants like this around, she has some eggs but that is about all. It really does look like Pogonimyrmex Occidentalis, but I live in the foot hills of western WA and it is not anything like a desert, though the distribution map I looked at also said they can live over here to.
I would really like it to be harvester ant

Re: WA QUEEN ID
I am going to try for a good picture from the side. It seems to me if I can see if she has that little spike, it should determine whether she is a Pogonimyrmex Occidentalis or a myrmica.
If anyone knows of another major determining factor please yell it out.
She does seem to be a to small to be a Pogonimyrmex though. I will measure her again tonight to make sure I got an accurate number.

Re: WA QUEEN ID
Here is a pic of my queen. Gaster is huge due to constant feed.
Here is an earlier picture of her. Bad quality but she definitely looked more like yours at this point

Wow, that first picture looks like she has that little spike behind her abdomen.
What do you think?
