Caught in June in Ontario, CA, I know they are Camponotus based on queen size. Very pronounced grey or silver lines on gaster. (also more apparent when well fed) I appreciate this learning process more and more every day.
The queen also has some red to her but since the workers do not really, I ruled out Nova.
Another colony I have is more purely black and I believe one is herculeanus and the other pennsylvanicus.
