so.... after not being able to find a queen all season and now Hurricane Irma headed to north Georgia I thought I might not find a queen this year. Well last night this lady was found walking across my kitchen floor. I am wanting to say she is a black carpenter ant.
If I am correct the head size should me I have a queen as the males "per google" have a smaller head compared to the thorax.

Update: tried to take a few more photos and found a measuring tape. She is really making a mess of the cotton, keeping her in a dark place for a while.

Carrollton, Georgia, U.S.
measurement looks to be just over a half inch or 1.5 cm?
