What kind of Pogonomyrmex queens are these
I caught these queens in parker CO and am wondering what species they are. they are 8-9 millimeters and lay TONS of eggs, their eggs are everywhere around the test tube but they are tiny.

Re: What kind of Pogonomyrmex queens are these
I believe they are all pogonomymex barbatus, a type of harvester ant. I actually have two of these queens and many pogonomymex rugosus, which have a black color instead of orange. I also caught some of them on early June so they should be getting their first nanitics by now.

Now that they are further in development, they are dark and have very long legs. I think they might be long legged ants. I tried brood boosting one with what i am 100% sure are Pogonomyrmex barbatus and the one queen I caught dosen't really care about them. Then again I have only viewed her twice

Could you post the pictures of the long legged ants to see if they are indeed Pogonomyrmex barbatus. The only thing about pogonomyrmex that I dislike is that they take a very long time to get a lot of workers. The 3 pogonomymex rugosus colonies I have are all about more than three months old and they still only have about 2-3 workers. I think brood boosting for this species would be great since they will have more workers to grow the colony.

One thing about brood boosting is that it makes the colony more aggressive. my leg is sore from brood boosting with about 100 mature pupa. they managed to escape and destroy my leg, i must have been stung at least 20 times!
