Hi, I just found this queen, mid sweden. I thought that it was some kind of formica maybie, and I like those, plus it had that orange colour so I kept it, now one day later, she is still biting the cotton to get loose, I have caught Paracidic queens before and they have done the same! Is she a paracite queen maybie!

Length: about 1 cm

Where: central sweden

Lasius subumbratus is purely a North American species, but she is definitely from the umbratus group. Lasius social parasites need adult workers, not just pupae; http://www.formiculture.com/topic/3252-much-ado-about-the-founding-of-lasius-temporary-social-parasites/
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
